Developed For:Robots and Us, Traveling Exhibit for Science Museum Exhibit Collaborative (SMEC). Learning Objective: Show how simple rules can give the illusion of awareness and emotion. LTC Staff Involved: Joshua Seaver Key Features: Jeremiah, developed by Richard Bowden at the University of Surrey in the UK, is based around two subsystems: a graphics system which constitutes the head, and a vision system which allows him to see. There is also a simple, built in emotion engine which allows him to respond to visual stimulus via expressions or emotions (eg. smiling, frowning). R & D Challenges: Adapt research project into floor kiosk that can be modified by staff while touring (ie. modify his viewing area, his emotional reactions, etc.). Determine best placement of camera, best range of motion for head. Automatic startup and shutdown without loosing settings.
