Math Tracks

DSC02245

Developed For: Handling Calculus, SMM Exhibit

Learning Objective: Users can explore using calculus (taking the derivative), motion, and representations of motion on and off the computer using stories, props, and a computer interactive.

Developed By: Teresa Hung, previous version developed by J. Newlin

Key Features: Users can create a position plot by drawing on a graph on the computer screen and then watch objects move along a track according to the graph they just created, OR they can move the objects themselves and watch a graph that is created on the screen that records the objects’ position in real-time. Users can see a velocity plot created from a position plot. Real-time graphics rendering shows that the velocity can be calculated by finding the slope of the tangent to the curve at each point of the position plot.

R & D Challenges: Write a graphing utility in REALBasic. Improve accessibility, navigation features, and graphics from previous user interface. Write driver in REALBasic for communication with new motor control unit.
