Wet wet people

Last Saturday Make It brought some of our projects to the Flint Hills International Children's Festival. We made Pin Hole Cameras (page 2 of the instructions here) and Straw Rockets.

About the time we got out straw rockets severe weather was spotted in the area and the park had to be evacuated. We left the festival tent with our supplies in hand and tried to reach the Science Museum. Three of four steps into our journey, the rain started. And it rained hard. John and Cameron luckily were almost back to the Science Museum so they didn't get too wet. Molly and Hannah and I on the other hand.... Well, check out these photos to see for yourself.

Great Video About Infrared Light

Make It has been making Infrared Scopes for some time now. Travis learned a way to make infrared goggles. We were able to find less expensive materials and make tons of one eyed scopes with museum visitors. The scopes we make block out all but the lowest light visible to our eyes.

The other day I found a great video that explains infrared radiation. The goggles and cameras in this video are different because they take radiation lower than our eyes can see and change it into a display that is visible. Check it out.

Cinco de Mayo: A fiesta of celebration,How track is going & Breezy Point

Today we were at the Cinco de Mayo festival on the west side of St.Paul. The first group of us (Molly, Cameron, Hannah, Naana and I) were there the longest. The projects that we did there were infrared goggles, pin-hole cameras and later thaumatropes. The goggles and cameras would have worked better if it wasn't so cloudy. At about 12 the rest of the group showed up and so Molly, Hannah, Naana and I were able to go on break. We walked down one way and I saw some friends from school. After that we went down the other way and Hannah was hungry so she got some corn and then we got some cookies to share between the 4 of us. We went back to the tent and after about a hour it started to rain so we packed up and left. Track has been real fun so far for me. This past Thursday we had a three way meet between us, Highland and Central. We beat Highland but we lost to Central by only 9 points. I throw the shot-put and the discus. My best record for the shot-put is 31 feet 6 inches and my best for discus is 84 feet 5 inches. Last weekend at Breezy Point we had a pretty good outcome. We came home with trophies for: 2nd place shooting as a team, 4th place domestics, 1st place white collar crime as well as a couple of individual trophies. I had a good time up there for it being my last year since I'm going into the military. Last but not least I was promoted sergeant at least until I leave. Until next time this is Big B signing out.

Cinco De Mayo Day!!! N Spiderman 3!! Yaaahh!!! >.<

The team went out to do an outreach today for Cinco De Mayo day at South Robert Street. It was fun seeing the kids getting excited about what was going on. The weather didn't work to our liking because it was cloudy and gray this morning that later on around 1:30 it started to sprinkle and after that it poured for a little while, so the team left early around 2. Instead of staying until 4 like it was planned. But on the up side the we did worked with some of the kids that were interested in learning about what projects we were doing, these projects were: thaumtropes, infrared goggles, and pinhole cameras.

The team also played a fun game involving balloons being tied to your ankles. The objectives of this game is the step on the other peoples' balloon while at the same time avoid getting your balloon stepped on. Sounds easy enough to play, but its super hard! Especially when everyone is so competitive. So yeah my balloon popped in like the first 5 seconds after Rachel yelled start. It very sad...but it was fun!!!

Oh i can't wait to go watch Spiderman 3 today!! But the downside to it that everyone that I know had seen it and they said that its not good. So I guess I'll find out for myself wrether I like it or not. >.< I'm just hoping that it wouldn't be a waste of $5 watching it tonight.
