Outreach at Rivers

Make It went to Rivers which is which is a resistance for seniors. We had the DART seniors help us teach second and fourth grades because there were only a few of us and needed their help. It was great working with DART. They were good helpers. There was a lot of second graders and the fourth graders was a bit less. I was help teaching the new pinhole camera and I was teaching vocal cords. I was surprised that most of the second and fourth graders' first try of making their vocal cord work worked. I had a lot of fun teaching them.

What I did over my Spring Break

On Monday of my spring break I went on my job shadow with Clearance to Urban Works to meet a archieteach name Dave. He first showed us the work he and others were working on then later we met others and see what they do and what type of soft ware they use. Then we went on a tour on the building 730 which they are building right now. We were standing on the first floor while people where working then we went doen the latter to see the parking lot. I thought it was amazing of how they build buildings.

On Wednesday I came to work and learned the two technology I signed up for they were scratch and stop-motion. I learned how to use them before but I wanted to learn more about it and refresh my memory. On Friday I came back and I got into a group to got on what we learned to make up a project to present. I was with Oliver and Omar. We did our project using stop-motion. The story was someone went for a walk in the park and a ball came and hit him on the head and knock him into the lake. Batman and a zebra was fighting in the back but what wasn't the point of the main idea. Someone came to help the person in the lake and they shook hands then a UFO came and took the person who save the person from drowning. I enjoyed working with my group and watching other groups work.

Snow on the ground

Last Wednesday after we, Make It team was done putting our materials together for the week we had a snow ball fight. Everyone was having fun. No one got hurt. I was taking pictures because I don't like to play in the snow. Its cold and I don't like to get wet. I enjoyed my team playing around. The pictures I took wasn't much good because some of them were bury due to myself being too far away from my team. After playing in the snow we went inside to talk about Thursday which was a outreach we were going to do at Museum Magnet but was cancel due to the snow on that day. After work everyone went home. I enjoy the end of the day because of the fun and team work we do together as a team.

African American Day

We the Make It team was not on the floor today because of the African American today that which we didn't have a space to teach visitors. We went around to check things out. First we stopped by a man he was talking about good soil and bad soil. I learned what if the sand was too sandy and soft it was not good to build a building there because the building will sink in. If the ground is rocky that means it is good to build a building because the building can't sink in. I never knew this before until now. The second stop was the firefighters. Kia, John, and Isabell (sorry if I spell your name wrong) put on the firefighters suit. I learned that if their is a fire they only have three minutes to get into their suit and grab everything they need and get into the fire truck. When they are in the fire truck they buckle up their suit and put on everything else. After that we walk around most more and then went to take our break. After the break we went to go see Voices. I thought it was good. I learned a lot of what other teenagers like me think of race.
What a Infrared day

On Saturday Feb. 3rd of 2007 Make It team was up on the three exhibit floor like every Saturday. One of the project was the infrared tube which was made up with blue and red special see through papers, toilet rollers, tape, and construction papers; black, purple, and blue. The difficult part of making the infrared tube with the visitors was taping the two blue and one, red special see through papers on the toilet roll. As Make It continued making infrared tubes it got a bit easier for Make It to tape the special see through papers taped on to the toilet roll and help the visitors. It wasn't much of a busy but was just right for them to teach their visitors at their tables.

RACE Exhibit

Today, Jan. 20th of 2007 Naana, Mai Khou, and I went to the Race exhibit after teaching rubber bands boats to the vistors. We saw many interesting things there like the pictures of many people with different backgrounds. I read a few captions but I don't remember what I read but I remember Naana was tellig me that we have the skin color we have because of where we came from. It was crowed in the exhibit but I had saw most of the things there. We played with the puppets, blocks with a picture of a person, and played the matching game. I ended up winning the game. It was nice for me to go see the exhibit with my coworkers.

Saturday and more

Last Saturday I was up on the third floor exhibit teaching Balloon Power Cars with Mike and John. There were a lot of kids that came by and it was hard for me to try to help everyone who wanted to make one. All of the kids there could blow their balloon I was glad I didn't get had to do that for them. I had fun teaching them. This coming up Saturday we are going ice skating downtown. I'm excited about it because it's going to be my first time ice skating. I hope I don't fall on the ice.

Today we had a new person who is going to work with us. Her name is Rachel, she took over Travis job after he left the Make It team to the teacher learning center. She looks very friendly. I haven't talked to her yet but I will.

The Science Museum is close for now because workers are cleaning up Body Worlds. After Body World is gone Race is going to be here in January.

The Last weekend of Body Worlds

Today is the day before Body Worlds is over. There are a lot of people getting tickets. Last night I was watching 9 News and Science Museum was on there. They said a lot of tickets have had sold and if people are going to buy tickets they should buy online because the box office is very busy. Many of the morning and evening tickets are sold but there are still night tickets.
The Make It team are up on the third floor as always on Saturdays. We have three projects going on because we know there are going to be a lot of people today. I thought the place was going to be pack but it wasn't. Some of the children or adults tried all of our projects. I enjoyed my day of teaching people. They were nice people and thank us after they're done with our project.

Cindee's Talk

While the Make-It Team were up stairs on the third floor exhibit Mai Khou, Cindee, and I talked about Hmong people, other people, and environment. Cindee asked us why are people up on the mountains are small. We didn't know so she said because mountains are high up and there are not that much oxygen to breath in. If they have a big body it'll be hard for them to take in a lot of oxygen to go though their body. We talked about the east that there are not a lot of nutrition so they are small and short.

Today's Talk

The Make-It team talked about the human brains. There are different parts in our brain and they worked differently. We read a online article about how we response to each other. The article said we use others as a mirror for example I'm in class and everyone is quiet and I start to talk to my friend then everyone else in the room starts to talk. If someone stop talking a few would stop also. Another we learned was that when people fight it starts small then to big and everyone learn from each other. I thought it was nice to learned this because I never knew this.

New ways to BLOG!

I just learned how to do html style on my blog. It's cool. I never knew how to do html. I was up stairs on the 3rd floor exhibit in the Science Museum. I was teaching kids how to make caustic. The the other project that was on the floor was thumbotrope. It was okay today teaching kids. It was kind of a slow day today but I don't mind.
I was working with:

Cameron

Mai Khou

Kia

Keng

They are good at teaching kids and fun to work with.

My view

Today is Nov. 1st of 2006. The Make-it team and Liz talked about what we can write in our bloggings because some said blogging is boring. In my view I think it is okay. We can how write about anything but it have to be something we want to post on the website. If it is something we don't want to post it on the website than don't write about it.
Today is a farewell to Travis. He used to work with the Make-it team. Also today is one of my coworker's birthday. I hope she'll have a great birthday. Then tomorrow Make-it team is going to Magnetic School to teach kids how to make our projects. We are going teach three of our projects; kelioscopes, voical cords, and dumbmotropes. It's going to be very busy because we went there last year and it was very busy and crowed we didn't have enough hands to help everyone. I hope it'll be fun teaching the kids.

Rocket Saturday

Sarturday Septmeber 14,2006 Make-it went step to third floor as they always do on Saturdays. They sat up the tables and the materials. There were two tables to make rockets and three boxes for kids to try to grt their rocket go into. A few minutes later kids and their parents came over and started to make rockets. One of the table were very busy and the other table wasn't as busy. After the kids made their rocket they went to the luanchng area. some went far and some went not to far. It's pretty exciting to see kids smile about how far their rocket went. Some of the kids came back to the table once or twice to make a different rocket or to make their rocket even better.

Rocket Day for Us

Make it and some other people in the YSC,

we outside to make rockets and lit them on fired. Travis made one first to show how it should looked like. Then he put the candle under the macth head inside of the foil and it fly off the paper clip into the ground. After that I made my first rocket. I only put one match head in the foil. Cindy fired mine and it didn't fly off the paper clip. Cindy put the candle under my rocket and nothing happened. I went back to make another one. I only put n one match head and wrapped the foil. I tiwsted the top of the rocket like Travis did his. I went back to Cindy and give her mine. I was hoping it'll fly off but it didn't. After that I decided not to make any more rockets because I don't think my rockets will ever fly. I watched other peoples rockets. Most of them didn't fly at all. When we went back inside we made straw rockets. Mine flew off my small straw by blowing air into it. We talked why we are doing this and the reason why is that NASA is making a new shadel. It would be done by 2014.
