Cinco de Mayo
Today, the Make It team went to Cinco de Mayo in West St. Paul and worked in the kid area. We first came and set up and then went to the petting zoo area. There were cute animals there like lambs, and rabbits, and even a piglet. Then, we started a cold and long day of work. We made pinhole cameras, infra-red goggles, and thaumotropes with visitors. Later, on break, i bought some expensive mini donuts and later found out that i could have gotten some for less... :} But, they were satisfying none-the-less. Afterwards, we left the festivities before it started to rain and headed back to the museum. Then, to end the day, we played a game where we all had balloons tied to our legs and we tried to pop everyone else's balloons while trying to save your own. It was overall a very enjoyable day and i hope that we could do something like this again.

Planning for Spring Break...
Today, we discussed what the Make It team will be doing during Spring Break. A few of us will be doing job shadowing with some of the workers here in the Science Museum, which should be interesting and enlightening. We will also be doing several different workshops with pay during the break. We also are preparing materials for an upcoming outreach in April with seniors and children. That should be fun because i will get out of school. ( Yay!:-] ) I think that this could turn out to be a very enjoyable Spring Break.

A "Lax" Saturday
Today was Native Americans In Science Day at the Science Museum. Therefor, the Make It team didnt have to work on the floor. Instead, we worked on improving vocal chord cups. We researched different ideas and science behind vocal chord cups. We also researched ways to change pitch in vocal chord cups and ways to present sound waves and how they work. Later, we went up on the floor and saw the different activities and booths in Native Americans In Science Day. This one was a little smaller than last year's but it was still informative. Today was a very relaxing day that didnt involve much strain. My kind of work day.

saturday
Today was a slow day. We started out with a brief explanation of job openings in the summer. Later, we discovered that we would be working on the 4th floor instead of the 3rd floor. We also discovered that we don't get that many people at our tables on the 4th floor. The projects that we did on the floor were vocal chord cups and fruit band. A few of the team members got spit on by kids while doing vocal chord cups and others had to clean up fruit juices doing fruit band. We attracted a few people but we mostly entertained ourselves. Oh yeah, we also had a snowball fight on Wednesday. It was a lot of fun.

Two New Projects
Today, the Make It team introduced two new projects on the floor, infrared goggles and goop. Infrared goggles use infrared light to view heat and things that you couldn't see with normal light. Goop is corn starch and water which acts as a solid with the application of pressure and acts as a liquid otherwise. So far, I think that the visitors are enjoying our projects and that we should do them more often.

Race Exhibit
Today, while half of our team was on the floor making projects, the other half saw the race exhibit. It was a very interesting exhibit about people's assumptions and facts on race. It showed how little people know about each other's races and gave a good understanding of different cultures. I saw a few people I knew in some of the videos and pictures and they told about their experiences with how people view them. It was a good experience and I learned a lot from it.

vending machine project
The Make It team is currently working on a vending machine to dispense some of our previous projects. I and a few others are working on gathering up our comic life's and current science stories. We are not displaying all of our comic life's, only the few that we plan to put into our vending machine. I found an old comic life for slide-togethers which looked a little old. My group took it upon ourselves to recreate that comic life. This time, it is more colorful and more detailed. Well I hope that you enjoy the comic life and i hope that we will one day see our vending machine up and running.

New Stuff
Last Saturday, the Make It team completed our quota of over 1,000 projects in order to go ice skating this Saturday. We tried a few new projects on the floor that day, along with an old one. We did thaumatropes, rubber-band boats, balloon cars, and fingerprints. That Saturday was also our last on the floor, so now we are in the process of figuring out something else to do on the coming Saturdays. Today, we got a new boss to take Travis' place, Rachel. We played a name game with her so the that she could get to know the team a little better. She seems very nice and will go ice skating with us on Saturday. By the way, i don't know how to ice skate, so this should be interesting. The rest of this season ought to be interesting as well.

New projects to consider
Today is the first day that the Make It team started to research our new project that we want to leave behind when we leave. I researched how much a vending machine would cost, and the sizes, and distribution because the group thought that a vending machine that distributed some of our projects would be a good idea. I found a few vending machines of the size that we were interested in, but they were a bit pricey. I ended up finding a vending machine that was reasonably priced and was a good size to distribute the projects in boxes. Overall, it was pretty hard to find a vending machine for what we want to do, but i think that we can work with what i found.

Make It Shirts
Today, our boss, Liz, told us that we would be getting our names sewn onto our Make It shirts. This was somewhat exciting news because we have been waiting on this for a while. Also, having our names on our shirts is helpful because it sort of gives people a reason to be more socially open with you. Today on the floor, a man asked me what my name was. It was kind of weird because no one ever really asks for our names, or cares. Everyone just makes the project and leaves. So, I think that having our names on our shirts would be very useful to break the "social barriers" of working on the floor.
