Two New Projects
Today, the Make It team introduced two new projects on the floor, infrared goggles and goop. Infrared goggles use infrared light to view heat and things that you couldn't see with normal light. Goop is corn starch and water which acts as a solid with the application of pressure and acts as a liquid otherwise. So far, I think that the visitors are enjoying our projects and that we should do them more often.

comedy Sportz
Last night I went to a show at Calhoun square called comedy sportz. Comedy sportz is like the t.v show "whose line is it anyway" but comedy sportz is just a tad different they have to different teams the red team and the blue team and they play a whole bunch of improv games and then people from the audience vote to see which team was the funnest. in the end the red team won with 29 to 24 it was so funny!!!

What's new with make it
Well... Make it is thinking of ways to keep a part of us at the science museum. We are thinking about ways to fit our projects inside of a vending machine. We have already made lots of progress. We have a small portion of our business proposal already done. I think it would be very helpful to us to have the visitors at the museum take a survey. I was thinking the parents, of the children who participate in our project could take the survey, while their kids take the survey. That's just an idea though, you never know what would happen right.
Something also new with me is that I will be taking driver's ed. pretty soon. Classes start like the second week in February, I can't wait!Patricia M – January 27, 2007 – 2:59pmPatricia M's blog – login to post comments
Cleaing out my inbox
I've been cleaning out my Inbox of really old emails. I found a couple emails I'd sent myself about science stories.
Combating Harassing Use of Mosquito Noise Device is a funny little story. The younger a person is, the higher the frequency of the sound they can hear. Here's another explanation of the Mosquito Noise Repellent and how it's used against teens. Make It does a couple of projects about hearing, especially Vocal Chord Cups.
Here's one about bacteria-powered motors. Check out the motors Make It makes with visitors.
An article about how our brain understands information from our eyes. Make it does a bunch of projects with sight including Thaumotropes, 3d Pictures, Pinhole cameras, and Zoetropes.
Finally, a little blurb about exotic materials. Make It is working on a couple of projects using dilatants. Right now we're working out how to not make a mess with the materials.

Race exhibit!
Today the make it team was really busy jumping form here to there. First we said our sad goodbyes to Theresa. She was very nice and brought in ice cream to share with everyone at the YSC. we will miss her a lot! after the make it team split up and half worked on the floor while the other half went to take a look at the new exhibit called the RACE exhibit. First i worked with the rubber bands on the floor, it went really well. Today the museum was really packed today with people ranging from all ages. The boats were a really big hit and everyone seemed to enjoy them them. After I was done working on the floor, Mai Kou, Nou, and myself went to see the race exhibit. I thought the race exhibit was very well done. It was very insight full and taught me many things i didn't even know about my own race, as well as other races. People tend to notices the differences and each race, but never seem to notice the similarities, and there are more similarities than difference. I think we should i get to know more similarities than differences.

RACE Exhibit
Today, Jan. 20th of 2007 Naana, Mai Khou, and I went to the Race exhibit after teaching rubber bands boats to the vistors. We saw many interesting things there like the pictures of many people with different backgrounds. I read a few captions but I don't remember what I read but I remember Naana was tellig me that we have the skin color we have because of where we came from. It was crowed in the exhibit but I had saw most of the things there. We played with the puppets, blocks with a picture of a person, and played the matching game. I ended up winning the game. It was nice for me to go see the exhibit with my coworkers.

RACE
okay.. so the whole seeing the RACE exhibit was kind of surreal... i helped design and a saw the scale model of it while i was on the team. it just makes me feel so bad when it comes down to the point that we have to make an exhibit to inform people to be more open minded about other peoples backgrounds and beliefs. it hard for me to be mixed(Ojibwa and German) and have people stare at me when i am dressed in my regalia and not understand. When i go to my reservation(Bois Fort) and visit my family they dont see that you are mixed or that you are only coming to visit because you live in the cities and they dont judge. i believe that the Indian community is more accepting and they dont see someone for their skin color or where they come from. when you grow up on the reservation you are taught to see a person soul and not their past actions or their hardships. when i was young i was always ridiculed and teased by the adults. when i was 4 years old my best friends mom came to pick her daughter from my house and she got scared because we had our eagle feathers up and took her daughter home. i called my friend and sent her letters and they sent them all back. i never once saw her again and i dont think that i ever will. i thought it was my fault but now i know that it isnt. i dont hide my identity and i love where i come from. i am so proud of my family and our history. my great grandmother was John Beargrease's last living granddaughter(she died a few years back). i love to inform people on my heritage and i am proud. I LOVE MY ETHNICITY!! LATER! .:*HANNAH*:.
