Caustics
The Make It team is teaching visitors to make designs with light. These light designs are called caustics. Caustics are very common. The light reflected on the bottom of the pool is a caustic. Caustics are made when light is refracted through crystals or diamonds. The Make It team used mylar or mirror paper to make caustics.
Use these instructions to make your own design with light. Does bending the mylar in a different direction produce a new pattern? Does using a different color flashlight or a different brightness of light effect the design?
