Great Video About Infrared Light

Make It has been making Infrared Scopes for some time now. Travis learned a way to make infrared goggles. We were able to find less expensive materials and make tons of one eyed scopes with museum visitors. The scopes we make block out all but the lowest light visible to our eyes.

The other day I found a great video that explains infrared radiation. The goggles and cameras in this video are different because they take radiation lower than our eyes can see and change it into a display that is visible. Check it out.

Brain Map

One of the newest projects Make It is working on is about brain development. For a great interactive map of the brain, check out The Human Brain Map over at the BBC website.

Cleaing out my inbox

I've been cleaning out my Inbox of really old emails. I found a couple emails I'd sent myself about science stories.

Combating Harassing Use of Mosquito Noise Device is a funny little story. The younger a person is, the higher the frequency of the sound they can hear. Here's another explanation of the Mosquito Noise Repellent and how it's used against teens. Make It does a couple of projects about hearing, especially Vocal Chord Cups.

Here's one about bacteria-powered motors. Check out the motors Make It makes with visitors.

An article about how our brain understands information from our eyes. Make it does a bunch of projects with sight including Thaumotropes, 3d Pictures, Pinhole cameras, and Zoetropes.

Finally, a little blurb about exotic materials. Make It is working on a couple of projects using dilatants. Right now we're working out how to not make a mess with the materials.

That was interesting Governor

Today I learned how to use the sewing machine to put my name on my Make-it shirt. It was a cool experience to learn about for me to know about in the future. Today up on the floor we are doing fingerprints for the first time and I wonder what kind of fingerprint do I have? We are also doing thaumatropes and kaleidoscopes on the floor as well. Well governor this is Big B signing off until next time.

alternate forms of power

Some of the Make It team members are working on balloon powered cars and rubber band powered cars. Today we watched three videos about alternate forms of energy.

Road trip is a video about the cost of driving.

Ethanol vs. gasoline is a video about the cars that have "flexible fuel engines" or engines that can run on ethanol.

The Wind Power Project is a long video about a wind project in California. We only watched the first segment of this video. We skipped the segments about "The Price of Urban Renewal" and The San Diego Hotel.

For more information on alternative energy, check out these stories on the Science Buzz.

Trying out HTML

Today we learned from Cindee on how to add html to our blogs even though I already know somewhat about htmling. Up on the floor here at the SMM we did thaumatropes & costics. I did thaumatropes with 2 other people & they are John & Hannah. Well I guess I can call it a day & pack this blog up so therefore I say that this is Big B signing out until next time.

Basketball

Basketball is like a team game. In which you have ten player on the court and only five of then are in your team. Then the other five player, you are playing against. The most important thing about basketball shooting the ball. The form is the most important in shooting. You must arc in your shot. You have to judge how far the rim is from you. I learn this thing in psyhology that once you see something like the rim of the basket. Your brain will us the image that you see and judge how far away you are from the rim without you even knowing. Your elbow have to aline with your eye. With one hand holding ball from the side and the other hand under the ball. You push off and flick your waist. Then a image the ball going in. That how you shoot a basketball.I think that Ray Allen have the best shooting form in the NBA.

CRYSTAL RADIOS!!

SO... Today we had to start a new project so kia and I are making CRYSTAL RADIOS!!! yeah... it is kind of hard to start them today because we had to find all of the materials and we didnt have the diodes that we needed to make the radios.. so now that the learning of how it will work out has been postponed.. i dont really know what to do.... but i still have to learn how to do costics and the fart machines for saturday so i think that that is what is going to be going on tomorrow... thats about it though... yup...Hannah

Wednesday of rocket

On wednesday we made rocket out of matches. I made two rocket out of matches. They didn't fly very far. More like they didn't at all. The only rocket that flew was Kia and Travis. The rocket that Travis made was the one that flew the farest. It was something like twisting the top so that the pressure only go one way and not two.

Welcome Back

On the day Make-It team come back we went to the 6th floor to learned about Nanotechnolgy. We sat down at the round tables. There was a introdution about what is Nanotechnology. It is in nano measured which is very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, small. That is how he, the presenter remember how small it is. After the introdution Linda did some experinment. One of her experinment was in two easter eggs one cloth's thread were smaller than the other cloth. The other cloth's thread were bigger. It was intresting that two eggs have the same mass but the cloth were different but both of them fit inside the egg they were in. Later we were in three groups. We played a game. Each person was a character. We played as them. We had a "X" card, green cards, blue cards, and a chanellge card at the end of the game. During the game we talked about nanotechnology. People had some different or same ideas about nanotechnology. Kia asked alot of questions. She asked how they'll come out of the body and would they still work when they come out of the body. They were very good questions. Nanotechnology can help stop cancer or before they are created. They are assigned to go to a certian spot that they are programed. They can be put in things because they are so small.
