Jitter city 02
I did a mini-workshop for a group of 4- and 5-year-olds using the jitterbug kits as a starting point. Or maybe the starting point was more this "city" of buildings and streets (the streets were the blue paper on the floor) that my 5-yr-old built. He wasn't interested in making "jitter bugs" but he was interested in making jitter machines that could drive around the city.
City environment for the jitter machines We had a bunch of materials that seemed like they could be used to make either machine-like or animal-like creations. The most successful materials might have been the little pieces of pre-cut wood shapes -- the kids could color them, and stick them directly into the foam. And the bells, which they strung on the pipe cleaners.
The spinning counterweight on the motor suggested a propeller to a couple of kids....
And one of the blue roads became a runway.
Several of the airplanes and other machines made jingling sounds as they moved...
