After trying some photographs with very long exposures, I thought I'd try making some drawings using a machine that could make many many repeated marks. Here's the machine: Drawing machine with markers. The program ran the motor forward for about 1/2 second, then backward, and repeated about 100 times. I thought that it would just draw the same line over and over, one on top of the other.
