I've been thinking about projections: things to project, ways to project, and how crickets fit into these ideas. Margaret found a cool site, Light Show Pioneers, that has a lot of projection machine patents on it. They're incredibly convoluted to read, but cool ideas. I played around a little with water and dyed vegetable oil (using a oil-soluble dye called Sudan III) and moire patterns.

I just recently discovered the sculpture of Tara Donovan. She uses very ordinary materials - toothpicks, plastic cups, plastic straws, fishing line - but whatever she uses, she uses a lot of it.
