Switches and wearable prototyping

Kristen, Margaret, Sabrina and Keith worked on simple switch ideas and wearable switch ideas planning for the Atelier in September. Here are a number of the prototypes: http://www.pienetwork.org/workshops/pie-institute/pie-wearables-prototyping/index.html
Water music

Water music: I'm trying out the prototype of a sensor board that lets you connect sensors to your computer. I'm using the Scratch program to make an animation that changes with the changes the sensors detect. I've been trying out attaching tinfoil as the material that will conduct electricity - and have used a Cricket so I can carry it to the Minnehaha Creek to dip into the running water. I also tried it under running and dripping faucets.
Snail's Pace Automata
Submitted by Kristen M on June 9, 2006 - 2:53pm.
Last week I made an automata sculpture using a clock motor. I attached the main rod to the hour hand, and put 12 cams on it. When I made it, I was thinking about how to show time a different way (this is sort of like a linear clock), and also I really wanted to make an automata that is motor, not crank driven. The cams move very slowly - so slowly that you can't see them move if you just stare at it, so you have to go do something else and come back to notice a change.
