The light overnight

Submitted by Margaret P on August 9, 2007 - 10:21pm.

I am using the data recorder to collect the light levels at the front window from 8 at night until morning. overnightligh01.jpg Here's the program that collects the data overy couple of minutes overnight. save_light.jpg My plan is to create a diorama with the LEDs in which the lights darken and brighten, echoing the changing light overnight, but over just a minute or two instead of hours.

Toy Reuse: A Light-Up Diorama

Submitted by Kristen M on June 5, 2007 - 2:22pm.
I made this diorama as a gift for a friend, using the guts of a battery-operated toy (one of the ones with lots of sounds and lights). When you look in the box and push the button on the side, LEDs flash on and off and illuminate a scene of UFOs and planets. The idea bubbled out of lots of toy taking-apart, and a Michel Gondry movie called Three Dead People. diorama.jpg I could pretty much use the toy as it was, but with a few adjustments.

Jessica Rylan - diorama with bird sounds

Submitted by Margaret P on April 18, 2006 - 2:00pm.

Artist Jessica Rylan made an interesting sound installation that features two types of bird sounds. Here's how she describes how she made the sounds: I did it by modulating the supply voltage, a popular circuit-bending trick. One bird chirps more frequently, sometimes sounding like a seagull. The other bird sings less frequently, but it has a long graceful warble like something that likes to stay hidden deep in the forest.
