process

talking.gifI talked to Margaret and Kristen about process and how ideas form and spent a day working on a couple ideas - just that - not really settled yet. So the first is something that I keep tinkering with... lights and dialogues. I bumped into work by the artist Andrea Dezso (look here) and it really affected me. So I started messing about with little pictures of people illuminated with led's.

Scurrying around

Submitted by Margaret P on April 18, 2006 - 12:37pm.

crab.jpg Fringed horseshoe crab made from folded and cut construction paper. This creature is pretty simple - the "animal" part is just construction paper that conceals the motor and wheels that make it move. I didn't have any particular animal in mind when I started the project - I just wanted to see what I could make out of folded paper. It looks sort of like a horseshoe crab with fringes and no tail.

Experimenting with a complex habitat

Submitted by Margaret P on April 18, 2006 - 10:21am.

This is a habitat made in a box. It is structured kind of like a diorama, with lots of layers of materials to peer through. habitat.jpg Diorama habitat made with a cardboard box, sequins, small plastic animals, paper, tinsel, and colored lights. It is lit by one green light (near the back of the box) and one red-orange light. I used pieces of plastic and this sparkly tinsel-like material to reflect and intensify the light (and the inside of the box is a light color, so that also helps it glow).
