Workshop Plan: Knotting, Wrapping Folding: Crafting New Forms
SMM Workshop: Knotting, Wrapping Folding: Crafting New Forms Break out of two-dimensions and into three while exploring the sometimes-surprising structural possibilities of paper and yarn. We’ll introduce the work of scientists, mathematicians, and artists inspired by natural, geometric, and architectural forms. Learn to crochet unusual new forms and take paper folding into new sculptural dimensions. Here's my draft plan for the workshop.
Folding Paper: 2d to 3d Resources
I am getting ready for a workshop we're doing on crocheting and paper folding. I'm looking for examples of ways of folding paper that turn a flat sheet of paper into something with a 3-dimensional structure.
Snail's Pace Automata
Last week I made an automata sculpture using a clock motor. I attached the main rod to the hour hand, and put 12 cams on it. When I made it, I was thinking about how to show time a different way (this is sort of like a linear clock), and also I really wanted to make an automata that is motor, not crank driven. The cams move very slowly - so slowly that you can't see them move if you just stare at it, so you have to go do something else and come back to notice a change.
